Over the last few years, a large bulk of my friends seem to have made the jump from being music listeners to being podcast listeners, & I haven’t been able to manage my jealousy. I think podcasts are fine for the most part, but every time I listen to one, I can’t help but wish I was listening to music instead. But then I thought, what if I could do both at the same time?

So I asked friends of mine to send me recordings of themselves talking about anything they wanted for 5 minutes straight. I took those recordings & chopped them up, trying to highlight the magic that comes from spontaneous human speech. The result is MetaPod, a kind of album/podcast/zine hybrid about sublime moments contained in ordinary moments. The ways we all stutter & flub, the words we can’t find in time before we try to say them out loud.

I also enlisted some other friends to make the ads that bookend the album. Advertisements are an integral part of podcasts as a genre, & it felt like cultural appropriation to remove them from the ritual.

I hope MetaPod provides for you an opportunity to reconnect with the parts of yourself you cannot curate.
